Michael Mason, Jazz and World Flutist http://www.fireflute.com has recorded for the independent Southport Records, Delmark Records, AVG Records and Lake Effect Records labels based in the Chicago Land area. In the Spring of 2026 Lake Effect Records and Michael Mason will be releasing his newest (8) song recording project “InterBeing” consisting of original compositions of Jazz, World, Global and Rock Music. Michael Mason’s previous “US” album recording project was evaluated and approved for voting by the NARAS Grammy Committees for the 2025 Grammy Awards process in the Global Music and New Age Music Categories. He has also released “Luminosity” in 2024 “Impermanence” in 2023, “Transcendence” in 2022 and “Human Revolution” in 2021. Michael’s musical studies began with Principal Flutist Joseph Zerov of the Chicago Lyric Orchestra and then with Janet Bergman at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Michael continued on to DePaul University where he studied with Principal Flutist Donald Peck of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Michael has worked with James Newton, Arturo Sandoval, Ian Anderson, Edward “Kid” Jordan, Douglas Ewart, Chicago’s legendary Fred Anderson owner of the Velvet Lounge in Chicago while performing with some of the most talented jazz musicians in the Chicago area. Michael’s flute improvisations in the world of jazz and world music has been well demonstrated and documented with his association with many great artists from the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians).

His musical influences have come from Ian Anderson, James Newton, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Sun Ra, Yusef Lateef and the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians).

He receives airplay from Streaming Media outlets, College/ University, NPR and Independent Jazz Stations worldwide. He has performed at International Jazz Festivals, the NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) Regional and National Convention Mainstage and Performing Arts Showcases.

He is available for College and University Performances, Artist-In-Residency Programs, Clinics, Workshops, Individual Improvisation Teaching, Concerts and Recording Sessions. Michael Mason is represented by Lake Effect Records, for Artist Management and Jazz Productions.
